Yaesu breaks from Motorola, announces new digital mode

Attached is a letter sent on December 27, 2011, by the president of Vertex Standard Co., Ltd., announcing a corporate reorganization which places the Yaesu and Standard amateur, marine, and air band radio businesses under the Yaesu Musen Co., Ltd., name and transfers the Vertex Standard land mobile radio business to Motorola. Several months ago, it was announced that the entire Yaesu-Vertex-Standard business had been purchased by Motorola, but apparently that relationship has been partially dissolved. Yaesu remains wholly owned by the family of the company's original founder. Yaesu's operations in the United States will be known as Yaesu USA Inc. and will remain at their existing offices in California.

Also posted on Yaesu's U.S. web site is a teaser about a new digital mode for amateur radio that they are launching in 2012. Attached is the document from Yaesu discussing various digital modes used on VHF and UHF. The document goes on to strongly hint about new digital radios coming from Yaesu. These new radios appear to use the DMR mode popular in Europe. Radios using this mode are currently available in the U.S. from Motorola in their MotoTRBO line.
